CVFA Overview

A revolutionary, low cost system for eye disease identification, characterization and progression monitoring

Ceeable Visual Field Analyzer (CVFA) is a patented, tablet-based visual field testing system originally devised by Dr. Wolfgang Fink at Caltech and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in collaboration with Dr. Alfredo Sadun at the Doheny Eye Institute (formerly at the USC Keck School of Medicine).

Unlike traditional visual field testing instruments, CVFA only requires a generic touch screen device (like an iPad®) and an Internet connection. As a result, it stands to revolutionize the way retinopathies are detected and treated for billions of people worldwide.

In multiple clinical studies since 2000, conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, optic neuritis, ocular hypertension, macular edema, and ethambutol toxicity have been successfully detected by CVFA. Further, in comparison to traditional visual field testing (perimetry) instruments, CVFA already exceeds their functionality in a number of areas, including 3D versus 2D analysis, superior angular resolution, earlier detection capabilities for several diseases such as glaucoma, and much quicker patient testing and assessment. Most importantly however, CVFA only requires a simple low-cost tablet device and an Internet connection. There is no need for expensive and bulky perimetry hardware or instrumentation.

New Governance partnered with Ceeable, the California Institute of Technology, and the Center for Military Medicine Research to fully commercialize the technology. Its now in use worldwide.
